“For you are a holy people to the LORD your God; the LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples on the face of the earth.”
Foundational Scripture : Deuteronomy 7:6
Christians owe a debt of eternal gratitude to the Jewish people for their contribution that gave birth to the Christian Faith, Jesus (Yeshua) a Jewish Prophet and Rabbi declared “Salvation is of the Jews”! John 4:22.
Please consider the Jewish roots of our faith:
- The Word of God: Genesis through Revelation
- The Prophets
- The Patriarchs
- Mary, Joseph and Jesus (Yeshua) of Nazareth
- The Twelve Disciples
- A prevalent false doctrine in modern Christianity is that of “Replacement Theology.” The divisive concept behind this teaching is that the Nation of Israel is no longer God’s Chosen People, but have been “replaced” by the Gentile, or “Christian” church. This teaching is very damaging to the Christian mind set because it is entirely at the expense and dismissal of the Jewish people, which is anti-Semitic. This belief system has brought about a breach between Christians and Messianic believers, stripping away the Hebraic roots of our Judeo-Christian faith. God chose the Jewish people to receive His Words, give birth to His Son, and minister the gospel to Gentiles in the first place. We have been grafted into, and not supplanted- His original vine. Without the Jewish people, there would be no Christian faith, no Messiah and no redemption for a fallen world.
Study of the Scriptures clearly reveals that Jesus (Yeshua) was a Torah observing Jewish Rabbi and Prophet. He came to this world to fulfill the teachings of God (Torah) not to do away with it (Matthew 5:17). The direct correlation of three major events of the Christian faith that occurred during God’s Appointed times (feasts) as given to Moses was no coincidence:
Jesus (Yeshua) was crucified on Passover (Pesach), the consummate Passover Lamb
Jesus (Yeshua) was resurrected on First fruits
The Outpouring of the Holy Spirit took place on Pentecost (Shavuot) when God opened the heavens and released a flood of His Spirit to nourish a harvest of souls for His Kingdom
Acts 3:22, 25-26 states:
“For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A Prophet shall the LORD thy God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; Him you shall hear in all things, whatsoever He shall say unto you. You are the children of the prophets, and the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying unto Abraham, In thy seed shall all the kindred’s of the earth be blessed. Unto you first, God having raised up His Son Jesus (Yeshua), sent Him to bless you in turning away every one of you from his iniquities.”
Based upon what God Himself speaks about His Plan of salvation through Israel, they are a special treasure in His heart by way of His perpetual covenant.
“I say then, has God cast away His people? God forbid. For I (Paul) am also an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. God hath not cast away His people which He foreknew. For, I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits, that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles be come in. And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Zion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.”
Romans 11:1-2 & 25-27
The Words of the Almighty leave no margin for error. God has not forgotten Israel! He chose Israel, and through Israel, God unfolds His gift of salvation in Jesus Christ. It is the desire of God’s Heart to bring Jews and Gentiles together in pursuit of a personal relationship with Him.
”For you are a holy people to the LORD your God; the LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples on the face of the earth.”
Foundational Scripture : Deuteronomy 7:6
“…ye (Gentiles) were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world: But now, in Christ Jesus, ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. For He is our peace, who hath made both (Jew and Gentile) one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us….for to make in Himself of twain one new man, so making peace.
…ye (Gentiles) are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God; and are built upon the foundation of the (Jewish) apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief corner stone; In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto a holy temple in the Lord: In whom ye also are builded together for a habitation of God through the Spirit.” Ephesians 2:12-15 & 19-22
Brethren, we thank God for Israel! Through Jesus (Yeshua) the Messiah, we have forgiveness of sins, access to God the Father and the Power of the Holy Spirit to teach us how to live a life pleasing to God.
All Christians should seek to have a heart for Israel, like their Heavenly Father’s Heart, in accordance with Romans 10:1:
“Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they may be saved.”
